The 111th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), an annual forum of tripartite discussion and formulation of conclusions on several issues concerning labour rights in the globe, was held in Geneva from 5th to 16th June 2023. The conference was organised by the of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Representatives of workers, employers and governments from 187 member states participated in the conference.

A Peculiar Pattern 

In a horrible incident, a factory fire broke out in Delhi’s Mundka on 13 May 2022. Dozens of workers were burnt alive and several others were injured. The official figure of deaths in the Mundka fire is reported to be 27, and the number of missing persons is reported to be 29. However, a fact finding team constituted by AICCTU that visited the place estimates that the number of deaths to be not less than 100.

The Aam Admi Party (AAP) has gained a major victory in recently conducted Punjab Assembly elections. The party has won 92 out of 117 assembly seats and it has defeated the incumbent Congress. The Shiromoni Akali Dal – an ally of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) – and the BJP itself were also routed to ground in the election result. Bhagwant Mann, a prominent Member of Parliament from AAP has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

The DTC Workers Unity Centre (DTCWUC), affiliated to AICCTU, conducted an extensive campaign from the beginning of February against the blatant betrayal of workers by the AAP (Aam Admi Party) led Delhi government.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), like any other educational institutions, does not merely comprise of teachers and students, but also hundreds of workers who toil every day to keep the campus functioning.
