Strike

Frontline workers employed in Victoria hospital as housekeeping staff, ward attenders, lift operators, Data entry operators and security, have not been paid their wages for October 2021. Victoria Hospital was a dedicated COVID-19 facility, and these workers worked throughout the first and second wave of COVID-19.  The wages for the month of September had also been delayed and was only paid on 31st October.

The National Convention of Workers was held on 11th November 2021 at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, under the banner of Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions and Independent sectoral all-India Federations and Associations. The convention began with paying homage to many tall leaders of the Central Trade Unions, Federations/Associations, prominent persons in public life who died during Covid-19 period, the farmers who lost lives during the year long historic kisan agitation, including the recent Lakhimpur Kheri killings, and those people who died because of hate crimes, etc.

After a seven-day strike, the Trade Union of Construction, Paving and Earth Movement Industries Workers of the State of Ceará (SINTEPAV-CE) inked a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with companies operating the Solar Alex Project in Ceará, Brazil.

The union won an increase in workers’ wages by 10 percent and increased monthly bonuses from R$ 450 to R$ 600 (about USD 110). Overtime pay was also increased by 60 percent during the week and 100 percent on Saturdays.

The central government has recently passed four anti-Labour Codes that, in the name of ‘ease of doing business’, effectively crush the hard-won rights of the working class. One such right that has been heavily impaired  is the right of workers to organize and collectively bargain. It has been done through the heavily problematic provisions in the Industrial Relations Code (hereinafter the Code) which replaces the Industrial Disputes Act (ID Act), 1947, the Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946 and the Trade Unions Act, 1926.

पांच लाख से अधिक कोयला मजदूरों का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहीं ऐक्टू, सीटू, एटक, इंटक और एचएमएस से सम्बद्ध कोयला मजदूर यूनियनों ने 5 सितंबर को रांची में सीसीएल के सीएमपीडीआई हॉल में कांवेंशन आयोजित किया. ईसीएल, बीसीसीएल, सीसीएल, एसईसीएल से सैकड़ों कोयला मजदूर कन्वेंशन में शामिल हुए. कोयला उद्योग में 100 प्रतिशत विदेशी पूंजी निवेश के विरोध में कोयला मजदूरों की एक निर्णायक लड़ाई की तैयारी के लिए यह कन्वेंशन आयोजित था. कन्वेंशन ने कोयला मजदूरों के आंदोलन का आगे बढ़ाने की दिशा में 24 सितम्बर 2019 को एक दिन की हड़ताल सफल बनाने का आह्वान किया.
